This image shows the addition made for the hospital. This section was the first part that was torn down in the renovation process.

In the process of taking down the additional part of the mansion, the construction crew ran into a problem when the entire exposed wall started bulging out. They had to completely redo it, starting by taking each brick out one by one in an attempt to save many as possible. The house was built from locally made bricks. These walls were 2 feet thick. After putting up a cement block wall, they used the bricks they saved to rebuild the wall.

When the crew started renovating the stairs, they found that they were built in a unique way. They were built to support themselves; there wasn’t a frame or anything else holding them up. This is one of two stairways that were built this way in the South.

The windows were redone using the original glass with new framing.

The chimney needed to be reconstructed as they had been damaged from lightning.
